Chapter artists respond to the Draft Drama strategy for Wales

We, the following members of the arts community of Wales, would like to ask the Arts Council of Wales the following questions.

1. Given that the Drama Strategy put forward by the Arts Council of Wales has been almost universally condemned, how can the public have confidence in the Arts Council of Wales ?
2. Would you agree that the creation of a national theatre of Wales, as proposed in the drama strategy, is a matter for debate by the Assembly, and not a proper matter to be decided by a quango behind closed doors ?
3. Given it is proposed that Clwyd Theatr Cymru will receive 35% of the total drama funding, can you please describe the audience profile for Clwyd Theatr Cymru.
4. You say you believe in supporting innovation and excellence, can you explain why of the 11 companies and artists showcased in front of an international audience of promoters and presenters last October only 4 will receive any funding in 1999.
5. Can you explain why companies were not individually consulted as to their future. Companies which will have funding increased, funding withdrawn, companies expected to merge or relocate, all learned of ACWÕs plans through a public document.
