The professional theatre and small nations - the creative environment and the audience Invitation to attend research seminar with award winning writer and director Tim Baker at Centre for the Study of Media and Culture in Small Nations

12.30pm - 1.30pm
Thursday 24th April
Zen Room, Atrium, Cardiff

Tim Baker, Associate Director of Clwyd Theatr Cymru, will discuss his forthcoming research work on The professional theatre and small nations - the creative environment and the audience.

He recently won a prestigious Arts Council of Wales Creative Wales Award to look at creativity within small nations. Creative Wales Awards give artists freedom, space and time to develop their skills and creativity.

Tim’s Creative Wales Award will enable him to investigate creative processes in theatre in small nations, which will be of benefit to his personal development, to the profession in Wales and Wales’s reputation internationally. Working with other professionals, Tim hopes to develop cross-cultural collaborations and projects. He is particularly interested in finding out to what extent the special sense of living and working in a small nation affects perceptions of self, others and those in larger nations. He also intends to offer some teaching within the small nations involved in the project, and in so doing, bring something of Wales to them.

Tim is a bilingual writer and director. For the last ten years he has been Associate Director at Clwyd Theatr Cymru, where he has directed over 30 productions, written over 20 plans and adaptations and won a number of awards. He has also directed two projects for the National Theatre (London) and helped form the Catalan company, Frec a Frec, with whom he has directed six productions, still touring Catalonia. Tim is a founder member of the Art of Change project, an international cultural/theatre investigation, with whom he has led projects in New York, Catalonia, Tokyo and Mumbai. Tim recently directed Porth y Byddar for Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, and he is also the new Artistic Director of the National Youth Theatre of Wales.
