Jesus Comes To Carmarthen!

Jesus Comes To Carmarthen! Hot on the heels of previous productions Y Pair and Siwan, and always at the forefront of contemporary and challenging theatrical productions, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, the National Theatre Company of Wales are back at Carmarthen’s Lyric with a daring new play: Iesu! runs from 24 – 26 September.

So you think you know who Jesus is? Iesu!, a daringly controversial new play written by Church in Wales priest Aled Jones Williams is about to spin traditional ideas upon their head. Already premiered at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in Cardiff, Iesu! takes a sobering look at the relevance of Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross in today’s conflict-ridden world, looking with fresh eyes at the figure of Christ and raising valuable questions. Controversialy, this boundary-pushing play presents Jesus Christ as female, with Fflur Medi Owen taking on the role, as part of the production’s quest for answers.

With a cast that includes Gareth ap Watkins, Dafydd Dafis, Dafydd Emyr, Llyr Evans, Mathew Lloyd, Sioned Wyn , Dorien Thomas and Llion Williams, and due to content (strong language and scenes of a sexual nature) Iesu! is an adults-only performance in the Welsh language. A free shuttle bus service is running for Iesu! with busses operating from Ammanford Miners’ Theatre and Llanelli’s Theatr Elli to The Lyric, with pick-ups en-route and returning at the end of the evening. More information on the free service plus tickets, priced £8 - £10, is available from the box office: 0845 226 35 08/09/10.
