Theatre, Education and Our Young People - Development or Decline

A Public Meeting on Monday 17th January 7.30 pm The Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells
Theatr Powys (Entering its 28th Year) in association with British Actors Equity; The Wales Association for the Performing Arts, The Theatre Writers Guild, The Musicians Union and UNISON Invite you to attend a Public Meeting
Theatr Powys and its Management Committee, in association with a host of individuals and organisations in Wales, is proud to invite you to this important Public Meeting.
A vociferous and growing body of opinion; expressed through the Early Day Motion in the House of Commons and the Statement of Opinion in the National Assembly; through continuing newspaper reports, features and television coverage; through public meetings and through hundreds of written letters is demanding that the implementation of the damaging and divisive Arts Council of Wales Drama Strategy be suspended.
The Arts Council have been summoned to meet with the National Assembly on the 19th of January. The Arts Council of Wales is conspiring to close theatre companies, (including Theatr Powys), to reduce provision and to slash the amount of public money available for theatre for young people. This is being done in the name of "funding fewer better".
Theatr Powys has consistently opposed this strategy and views the ACW recommendations for the future of theatre in Wales as reckless, shortsighted and indicative of pre-determined political and economic objectives.
What is really happening in Welsh Theatre?
What is happening in education?
What is happening to the quality of experiences offered to our young people?
This meeting will be attended by Powys Councillors, MP's and AM's and by guest speakers from across the fields of theatre and education in Wales. We urge you to attend and to express your views on this further threat to provision for our young people.
When the Theatre Companies Close They Will Never Come Back
