Shared Experience Present Play About Adoption

Shared Experience Present Play About Adoption World-class theatre company, Shared Experience present a new gripping and provocative play about adoption at Sherman this Autumn.

Mine is a new play focussing on one couple’s journey as they adopt a baby and is written and directed by Shared Experience’s Artistic Director, Polly Teale. Polly won the Evening Standard Award for Best Director for her own play, After Mrs Rochester, which also won the Time Out Award for Best West End Production. Polly comments:

“Two couples, friends of mine who were unable to have children of their own, have adopted babies who were taken from their mothers at birth. They were taken because the mothers were assessed as incapable of parenting. Whilst being moved by my friends courage and commitment in the face of this challenge I was also aware of the birth mothers loss and the extraordinary potency of the situation.”

Mine is the story of one couple who have it all except one thing – a baby. When they decide to adopt, they know only how much they long for a child. But the baby’s troubled mother comes to haunt them and their lives become entangled in a way no-one could’ve imagined.

Shared Experience have produced a wide variety of work over the last 33 years from adaptations to contemporary drama and this will be an exciting return to Sherman after an absence of 12 years.

Mine will be at Sherman, Cardiff from 30 October until 1 November 7.30pm. Tickets are £16 (Reductions £14, Under 19s £10). There will be a post show talk on 30 October. For more information and to book tickets please contact the Box Office on 029 2064 6900 or visit Recommended for Ages 13+
