SWANSEA CITY OPERA RETURN TO BLACKWOOD MINERS Following highly successful productions of The Daughter of the Regiment and The Magic Flute, Swansea City Opera return to Blackwood Miners’ Institute on Tuesday 4th March at 7.30pm. The Elixir of Love (L’Elisir d’Amore) by Gaetano Donizetti bring this timeless and charming comic opera to life, updating it a little to the 1920’s and setting it in the uniquely beautiful village of Portmeirion, North Wales.

A shy young farmer loves a beautiful landowner. She possesses money, education and sophistication, he doesn’t. They’re worlds apart and his unrequited love looks like it will never be reciprocated. That is until the day a travelling salesman breezes into the village selling a magic elixir, and then the fun really begins. Full of hilariously colourful characters this deliciously frothy tale of romance has delighted audiences throughout the world.

We are also offering tickets for children priced at only £1 when accompanied by a full paying adult so why not bring the children or grandparents along as well!

The score is full of memorable tunes including “Una furtiva lagrima”, a favourite of tenors from Caruso to Gigli, and the aria that catapulted Pavarotti to fame. Set Design Gary McCann, Costume Design Gabriella Ingram, Director Andrew Gallacher. Co-production with Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon and The Coliseum, Aberdare.

Tickets cost £13.50 with £11.50 concessions and are available from the Box Office on 01495 227206. Ticket also includes a pre-show talk from the company. Sung in English.
