GRAVITAS - The human and personal response to war

GRAVITAS - The human and personal response to war Multi award-winning, dance and physical theatre company, Earthfall, present the second-leg of their acclaimed national tour, GRAVITAS, which is to embark on Wednesday, 4 March at Bath Spa University, visiting a further four venues across the country throughout March (see full tour schedule below).

‘Full-tilt physical theatre… Life threatening choreography… Amid the busiest audio-visual world… Earthfall are a 21st century phenomenon’
THE GUARDIAN

Based on the controversial themes of imprisonment-without-charge and suppression, GRAVITAS, pursues the captor and the captured, the powerful and the powerless, the censor and the censored in a performance built upon the testimonies of soldiers and prisoners and the interpretations of the eight performers, in a personal reaction to humans in war that explores the paradox of freedom of speech and the nature of power and protest.

‘Gorgeous… fearless… beautiful’
THE INDEPENDENT

Utilising trademark ingredients of live music, film and dark humour, Earthfall’s choreography journeys from the perilous to the poetic, fuelled by the music of our time, and influenced by the works of Banksy and Kenneth H Brown, featuring a live score written and performed by Sion Orgon and Frank Naughton, and set design by Mike Brookes.

‘Stunning’
THE STAGE

Director Jim Ennis comments: “We decided to immerse ourselves in an urban ‘no-mans-land’ where our interactions, our dances, words, live music, images, and relationships continuously explode and implode, then settle, to reflect events from our history and our reactions to such events.

“We have pushed ourselves with diverse music and physical provocations as we continue to pursue our notion of politics, relationships and choreography… our ‘Choreopolitik’!”

This unashamedly controversial and contemporary piece displays Earthfall at their most profound and cutting-edge, promising audiences a highly-charged performance that is both provocative and alluring.
