GWENT YOUNG PEOPLE’S THEATRE PRESENTS ‘THE REST IS SILENCE’

GWENT YOUNG PEOPLE’S THEATRE PRESENTS ‘THE REST IS SILENCE’ (The Three Sisters and Waiting for Godot)

The death of Anton Chekhov is one of the great set pieces of literary history. The events leading up to his death mirrored his art.

‘The Rest is Silence’ uses as its basis several first hand accounts interwoven with extracts from his dramas and prose.

Samuel Beckett’s ‘Waiting for Godot’ explores the nature of isolation and longing in a barren landscape.

Working with an original soundscape, ‘The Rest is Silence’ uses movement, dance and text to investigate what occurs while waiting for the grand event.
This new production is performed by senior members of the Gwent Young People’s Theatre under the direction of Chris Durnall, who always sets out to present a challenge to his actors, in terms of both stagecraft and literary text, as evidenced by their recent productions of Macbeth and The Sacrifice.
