Last chance to see “high quality” performance from next generation of dance professionals with National Dance Company Wales

The press has called it “high quality choreography performed by dancers with that sparkle of enthusiasm combined with natural talent*”. Now, audiences have just two opportunities left to see this bold and beautiful performance by the freshest new professional talent in the contemporary dance world.

Plunge is a double bill of dance works from National Dance Company Wales, created especially for smaller theatre venues and performed by six dancers at the start of their professional careers.

Following successful performances in Cardiff, Carmarthen and Ceredigion, Plunge will close its Welsh tour at Cardigan’s Theatr Mwldan on Wednesday 13th April 2011 and the Borough Theatre in Abergavenny on Friday 15th April 2011.

The first of the two works, Up Close and Personal, contrasts the passionate movement of contemporary dance with the classical music of Mozart. Choreographed by Roy Campbell-Moore, NDCWales’ Artistic Associate and Founding Artistic Director, it was previously performed by the Company and explores what was going through the young composer’s head when he penned his music.

Embark is an emotionally driven and highly charged production from Welsh choreographer and former NDCWales Company member, Phil Williams, from Ebbw Vale. Set to a haunting original score by composer Benjamin Talbot, it takes the audience on a moving and unforgettable journey through a resurrected past, as the dancers fly, swoop and dive in a furious flood of dance.

Plunge is part of National Dance Company Wales’s commitment to nurturing new talent and enhancing their professional experiences.

Ann Sholem, Artistic Director of National Dance Company Wales, said: “We auditioned around 60 dancers and we have chosen the six best. We’re delighted to be working with them at the start of their professional careers, introducing them to the dance community here in Wales.”

Plunge has also enabled National Dance Company Wales – which has gained a growing national and international reputation for its performances – to return to venues it has not performed in for several years.

Ann Sholem said: “It is great to be returning to the Borough Theatre in Abergavenny and Cardigan’s Mwldan Theatre. These are two wonderful venues with loyal audiences that have been very supportive to the company and contemporary dance as a genre over the years.”

Twenty five-year-old Daisy Natale, from Pontypool, was selected by the company to take part in Plunge because of the incredible talent she showed. She said, “It’s good to be home, to be working with a professional company that you’ve been inspired by forever. I started dancing when I was very young and ever since then, NDCWales have been ‘it’.”
