SOCIAL NETWORKING DRAMA AT ABERGAVENNY

SOCIAL NETWORKING DRAMA AT ABERGAVENNY The Melville Theatre, Abergavenny, hosts visiting youth theatre Mess Up The Mess from Carmarthen on Thursday 8 September with a ground-breaking play by celebrated writer Dafydd James.

Dafydd James, who won a Total Theatre Award in 2009, has been working with young people from Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Wales to create a piece of drama about communication across the internet, social boundaries, relationships and the nature of trust.

The play – called Click - is being performed in all four countries and is on a tour of West Wales, Cardiff and Abergavenny.

All the young people have worked together and shared their ideas about blogging and social network sites. Click is a snapshot of the diversity of modern youth culture presented through a moving, engaging and funny script.

It tackles a range of issues - young carers, sexuality, pregnancy, homophobia and identity - with humour, music and multi-media.

The cast and crew comprise completely of young people and Dafydd James says: “To be involved in an international project of this scale, scope and ambition has been an absolute privilege.

“Young people from all around the world have been so generous with their time and talent.

“Their work not only inspired this play but will continue to inspire me for the rest of my life, I imagine.”

Frazer Corfield, Artistic Director for Australia Theatre for Young People said: “It is one of the most exciting new plays for young adults that I’ve read in the past 18 months.”

And Tabby Besley, of NZ Inspired Productions, commented: “It provides a really cool learning experience where we get to learn about other cultures and explore similarities and differences.

“I think a lot of people will be able to relate to the characters and issues it brings up.”

Click is at the Melville Theatre in the Drama Centre, Penypound, Abergavenny, on Thursday 8 September at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 and £6 (conc) from the Borough Theatre box office tel 01873 850805.
