The company behind the highly successful South Wales Community Choirs, and the ‘Don’t Give Up!’ project in aid of Tenovus Cancer Charity (registered charity no. 1054015) is delighted to announce a new venture as part of the TARGET (Theatre Arts: Get Involved) initiative.
If you’re aged between 11 and 25, and hoping to exercise your vocal chords in the coming months, then look no further than this new and exciting performance opportunity, starting up in Llantwit Major. TARGET is launching a non-profit community youth choir, in partnership with The Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service. The choir will be open to all young people with a love of singing, and is completely non-selective. No audition or experience is necessary.
Based on the highly successful model of South Wales Community Choirs, which together have over one hundred members, The Vale Rocks! will focus on bringing high-quality performance to local areas and, as part of our ongoing commitment to communities, we are proud also to support specialist groups and charities through our fundraising performances.
The Vale Rocks! will launch on Sunday September 18th 2011 in the Llantwit Major Youth Centre, Station Rd, Llantwit Major CF61 1ST. Tuition will take place every Sunday, from 2:00-4:00pm, during term time. The choir will sing well-known rock songs and popular favourites, with some high-octance choreography included in the package, and will work towards a number of incredible performances over the coming months.
Emma Rowland, Creative Director of Theatre Arts: Get Involved and composer of pop single Don’t Give Up!, said “we are incredibly excited to be able to build on the ground-breaking work of TARGET, and on the huge successes of our two established South Wales Community Choirs. Performing gives young people a voice and a medium through which to be heard and the new rock choir will hopefully get even more young people involved in the exciting field of the performing arts.”
Tina Simmons, Youth Development Officer for Vale of Glamorgan, said “I’m really excited about this opportunity for young people in The Vale; this project is completely open access, regardless of ability or background. Singing has the power to provide therapy and cross boundaries, and provide a positive experience. The most important part of it is the opportunity to make friends and for the young people to feel like they belong, and music is a wonderful medium through which to do exactly that.”
