National Dance Company Wales’ dancers triumph at festival
|
Two National Dance Company Wales dancers are celebrating success after scooping top prizes at an international dance festival in Germany. Eleesha Drennan won best performance and Eran Gisin took second prize for his choreography at the 2012 16th International Solo Dance Theatre Festival in Stuttgart.
The pair, who are company dancers with the Cardiff-based National Dance Company Wales, (NDCWales), fought fierce competition to win a place at the festival. Only 18 dancers and choreographers were short-listed to perform in six categories, while just eight were chosen for the final round. Eleesha and Eran performed for a jury of dance experts, who were chaired by renowned director Samuel Wuersten, who runs the Holland Dance Festival.
Eleesha won first prize for performance of her work Whiskers, while Eran took second for his choreography of Emotions, job, emotions, once a day. Both dancers won a cash prize and have been supported to develop their choreographic skills at NDCWales, which has some of the best dance production facilities in Europe for creating new work.
“I am delighted for them,” said NDCWales Artistic Director Ann Sholem. “They have plenty of talent, and are fine examples of the high quality dance being produced in the Dance House.”
Come and see Eleesha’s award-winning production Whiskers on 14th April at the Dance House as part of NDCWales’ Meet the Artist, See the Art season, as well as her acclaimed piece Phantoms Of Us, on NDCWales’ spring 2012 tour. Eran is also performing on the tour which features dances from internationally-renowned choreographers.
