An entertaining new play documenting the history of Milford Haven and its development over the years is being premièred by a Summer Youth Theatre group in Pembrokeshire next week. Researched and written by Dave Ainsworth, the Torch Theatre’s Youth and Education Officer, The History of Milford Haven in 67 Minutes retells the interesting history of Pembrokeshire’s natural harbour. The fourteen cast members, all from Secondary Schools throughout Pembrokeshire deliver an amusing and fast paced production. Their mission is to retell each noteworthy event in the history of Milford Haven in the space of 67 minutes. The question is will they be successful? Including scenes of the birth of a future princess, an ‘explosive’ swimming pool race in 1947 and an exploration into the ghostly goings on in The Kimberly Pub, the play not only endeavours to entertain but aims to give a glimpse into the past of the rich history that is rooted in what we know as Milford Haven today. The Play finishes with a toast to the past, marking the importance of Milford Haven’s bustling and vibrant industry and culture, and then with a toast to the future, signifying a new beginning; a beginning pointing to an exciting and new era in Milford Haven’s history. Above all, it is clear that both Dave and his cast members have enjoyed the experience, Dave expressing that “it’s always great to work with students who are committed. It’s a wonderful opportunity for them to gain experience working in a professional theatre”. Cast member Bethan Davies from Sir Thomas Picton School says “I have really enjoyed working on The History of Milford Haven in 67 Minutes, it has given me the chance to use the professional facilities the Torch Theatre provides and also work in a youth theatre with the other cast members who enjoy acting just as much as I do”. The History of Milford Haven in 67 Minutes performed by the Torch Theatre Summer School opens at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven on Wednesday 1 and runs until Saturday 4 August, with a matinee performance on Saturday 4 August at 3.00pm.
