Legendary Welsh singer-songwriter Cerys Matthews is to share the stage live with Ballet Cymru Legendary Welsh singer-songwriter Cerys Matthews is to share the stage live with Ballet Cymru as her album Tir is choreographed as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of Newport’s City Status.

Welsh singer-songwriter Cerys Matthews’ iconic album of Welsh folk music is the inspiration for Tir and part of an extraordinary double bill of new welsh dance coming to The Riverfront Newport’s celebrates it’s tenth anniversary as a city.

Newport based choreographers Darius James and Amy Doughty will be using 11 of the songs from Cerys’s album Tir to create a unique work for Ballet Cymru. Cerys herself is collaborating with the company and will be playing the music live on stage on Saturday 22 September at 7.30pm. This is essential viewing for any Cerys fans, as well as followers of contemporary dance.

This dance double bill also includes Cold Rolling, a new piece from Wales based choreographer Tanja R_man which explores the ghosts and remnants of Ebbw Vale’s rich industrial past and animates the various processes of steelmaking into vibrant choreography.

The 10th Anniversary celebrations continue with Newport’s own Josie d’Arby’s co-production with The Riverfront, The Newport Monologues which comes to The Riverfront from Wednesday 26 to Friday 28 September at 7.30pm. Written and co-produced by Josie, The Monologues turn the spotlight on the city’s own stories and put the extraordinary and inspiring tales of Newportonians centre stage as a dynamic theatre-drama.
