Sister From Another Mister present: ‘A Work in Lolgress’

The all-female comedy troupe Sister from Another Mister present an eclectic, politically informed show exploring the comedy to be found within issues of race, gender, family and everything in between (their legs). With a combination of seven and a half ethnic backgrounds between them, Sister from Another Mister’s show has been inspired by their adventures to the picturesque, ovine-clad scenes of Wales, treks through the sweaty tropics of Malaysia and holidays to beyond (Edinburgh).
Cambridge graduate, babe and stand up comedienne Natasha Yapp is joined by the Exeter University’s own chuckle sisters Izzy “to me” Rabey (veteran member of Aberystwyth Arts Centre Youth Theatre and Dance School) and Sharanya “to you” Radhakrishnan, in a production that hopes to amuse through techniques of Celtic myth, Indian dance, sensitive application of Chinese pop music and a sack race. Izzy and Sharanya have experience of performing sketch comedy and stand-up in various festivals, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2011 and 2012 and Natasha has recently been published and cited as ‘one to watch’ by the UK’s Funny Women Awards (www.funnywomen.com).
Sister From Another Mister will be touring the afore-mentioned ‘sweaty tropics’ of Malaysia in June 2013, in support of the work of Malay political activist, Ambiga Sreenevasan. Ambiga won The International Women of Courage award in 2009 for her tireless campaigning for the rights of women, the LGBT community and in support of democratic voting rights throughout Malaysia. Sister from Another Mister promises to be the first of a new wave of all-female brains and brawn comedy groups.
