Y Ffwrnes gives Carmarthenshire schoolchildren an insight into skills for a career in theatre

Y Ffwrnes will allow behind the scenes access to Creative Choices (formerly Offstage Choices) offering schoolchildren from secondary schools in Carmarthenshire, a rare opportunity to gain hands-on experience of the skills needed to work on professional theatrical productions.
On February 25th 2013, the new theatre will be buzzing with local children who will enjoy a rare opportunity to get a real taste of behind-the-scenes secrets & skills and an opportunity to discuss options in working towards a possible theatre career ‘out of the spotlight’ rather than in the limelight.
Rhian Wyn, Technical Manager at the Ffwrnes said “We are delighted that CCSkills have launched their Wales-wide tour of their Creative Choices events at the Ffwrnes, Llanelli. Anything that can enlighten children, at a formative age, of these career opportunities is obviously a positive move in the right direction, in an industry which needs to nurture a whole new generation of creative talent.”
Now in its fourth year, the programme will reach 9,000 schoolchildren across the UK who will all receive and take part in backstage and offstage workshops and get hands-on experience of work involved at all levels of these industries. The event at the Ffwrnes is the first of its kind in Wales.
The Creative Choices events place students in venues with industry experts so they can experience the wide range of career opportunities available within the creative industries Y Ffwrnes is one of 33 Skills Academy member organisations around the UK who are taking part.
Catherine Large, Joint Chief Executive, Creative & Cultural Skills, said: “This nationwide series of events will enable young people to discover career routes, try some of the jobs and meet industry professionals. By linking these venues and potential employers with our Founder Further Education Colleges young people will also find out about training and support to get into jobs and careers in their area.”
