Ynys Gwydr: Island of Glass - A Community Opera
|
A tale of arson, abduction and the fall of a royal court, Ynys Gwydr: Island of Glass is a gripping account of Merthyr's turbulent early medieval past
The production uses the music of Handel set to new words devised in community workshops in order to tell the story of the destruction of the royal residence of the Kings of Brycheiniog built on a man-made island in Llangorse Lake. Professionals, community singers and students will all work together to portray this exciting tale.
At least 500 people from Merthyr Tydfil have been involved in the creation of this very special performance, be this through contributions during the creative research phase, during the live performance, in the development of films and digital photography or in assistance with set and costume design
This unique project has been supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council Wales and the Heritage Lottery Fund
