Ioan Gruffudd and Ruth Jones provide recorded narration as The Igam Ogam Show gets set to tour Welsh theatres this summer

Hollywood actor Ioan Gruffudd and Gavin and Stacey creator Ruth Jones have lent their recorded vocal talents to an exciting and vibrant new children’s theatre show touring Wales this summer.

The Igam Ogam Show is an action-packed stage production that combines real-life performers with puppets, a colourful, interactive set and plenty of singing and dancing that will enchant young audiences.

Based on the popular children’s animation, which is shown on S4C and Channel 5’s Milkshake, the show will visit 10 theatres across Wales this summer, with both Welsh language and English language performances.

The production – which is suitable for children aged two to six and their families – follows the mischievous little cave girl who likes nothing more than hanging out with her friend Roly. But as the pair bounce and tumble around her cave one day, Igam discovers a new friend… her shadow.

Ioan Gruffudd – who has starred in The Fantastic Four and Hornblower, and Ruth Jones, most famous for creating and starring in Gavin and Stacey and Stella, have recorded the narration for the stage show, reprising their roles in the animated series, produced by Cardiff-based Calon TV. Ioan has recorded the narration for the Welsh language version of the show, while Ruth has provided the English voice-over.

A Coreo Cymru and Wales Millennium Centre production in association with Calon TV, The Igam Ogam Show marks a new direction for Wales Millennium Centre, as the landmark Cardiff theatre moves into producing its own theatre shows, as well as hosting them.

Carole Blade, creative producer of The Igam Ogam Show and Coreo Cymru, said: “I am thrilled that two of Wales’s most famous and well-loved stars are supporting this production.

“A lot of children coming along to the shows will have watched the television animation, so having Ruth and Ioan provide the narration is a wonderful way to provide continuity between the TV show and the stage show because the voices will be familiar to them – and their parents, too.”

She added: “I was in the studio in Cardiff with Ruth when she recorded her part and she was great – she was incredibly professional and it sounded exactly as I had imagined it would.

“Ioan did his recording from a studio in LA. It is wonderful that even though he is a Hollywood actor he still is fond of his Welsh roots and is supporting the show.”

Ioan Gruffudd said: “I had a great time recording the Welsh narration in the studio in LA. It’s fantastic that The Igam Ogam Show will be touring in both Welsh and English. As a father myself, I know what a delight it is taking young children to the theatre.”

Louise Miles-Crust, Head of Programming at Wales Millennium Centre, and producer of The Igam Ogam Show, added: “Wales Millennium Centre is delighted that Ruth Jones and Ioan Gruffudd have provided the narrations for The Igam Ogam Show. They are both already such ambassadors for Wales and the incredible performance talent we have here. We hope that having their support will encourage even more families in Wales to experience live theatre in the language of their choice this summer.”

The Igam Ogam Show is touring Wales this summer, with performances available in both English and Welsh. It is a Coreo Cymru and Wales Millennium Centre production in association with Calon TV.
