Illyria and Theatr Mwldan present The Mikado by Gilbert & Sullivan
|
Welsh Wildlife Centre, Cilgerran Sunday 21 July 2013, 7.00pm
In 2011, Illyria raised the bar for the major UK open-air touring theatre companies by becoming the first and only one to add Opera to its regular season and they’re back at the Welsh Wildlife Centre, Cilgerran on Sunday 21st July at 7pm with Gilbert &Sullivan’s witty and humorous opera - The Mikado.
In the town of Titipu flirting has been made illegal. The penalty is death. Too bad then that the main culprit is the Lord High Executioner Ko-Ko, who wishes to marry his beautiful young ward Yum-Yum, and who has no intention of executing himself. So when Nanki-Pu arrives in Titipu and declares his love for Yum-Yum, Ko-ko has the perfect candidate for execution. Except that Yum-Yum, by tradition, would have to be executed with Nanki-Pu. And Nanki-Pu turns out to be the Mikado’s own son. And the Mikado himself is about to arrive on a state visit to Titipu...
This wonderful comic opera, a parody of British politics, institutions and public life - is surprisingly relevant for the 21st century!
The opera receives the full Illyria treatment, performed by a small cast with a musical director accompanying on the keyboard.
Tickets for The Mikado on Sunday the 21st of July at 7.00pm at the Welsh Wildlife Centre, Cilgerran are £15 (£13 concessions, £11 child) and can be booked as usual by calling 01239 621200 or online at www.mwldan.co.uk. Smartphone users can book by visiting mwldan.ticketsolve.com/mobile.
P.S. Don’t forget Illyria productions of Babe The Sheep Pig on 4th August & As You Like It on 22nd August! |
