World Premiere of 'Plunge' at Small World Theatre
|
Small World Theatre present the World premiere of a fantastic dance puppet piece “PLUNGE” by Federico Restrepo of LOCO7 dance puppet theatre New York at Small World Theatre, Sunday 15th September at 8pm Cost £7. The post show discussion offers a unique opportunity to examine the work of this master dance puppet performer further.
Plunge is a solo work that combines the use of body puppets, marionettes, masks, dance, and music. It is framed in an unfamiliar world where in the protagonist struggles to find a new place to call home. His journey is filled with strange dreams which encroach on his view of the world, creating exciting conceptual images of the “displaced”.
The play deals with the relationship between where we come from and where we go. Restrepo explains,“ Grandparents ashes and the footsteps through the earth give us a way to enter the strange world of the main character as he deals with dreams of his former world, his homeland. They are drifting away and the anguish that this sensation brings about, form visualizations of the main character’s mental state.”
Plunge, as with other Loco7 productions, creates movement and visual elements to abstractly express the anguish and detachment, which is the displaced persons experience; taking aim at the transcending barriers and linking the political and social borders that are in constant flux throughout the global community. Federico, originally from Bogota Columbia, is a resident choreographer, director, puppet designer, and performer at La Ma Ma Theatre in New York since1985. This is a very rare opportunity to see his work. Running Time: approx. 45 minutes with a post show discussion
