Melmoth the Wanderer
|
Direct from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the ‘funny as hell’ Melmoth the Wanderer comes to The Riverfront Theatre to kick off the Autumn 2013 season!
SAW meets Fawlty Towers meets on a dark, dark night!
A small polite choir gathers to sing some hymns and light opera, delighted with their last success, a hugely ambitious site specific South Pacific. Enter Melmoth, a distraught, tormented soul, condemned to relive his terrible story for eternity. No matter how politely the choir tries to escape, their descent into hell is inevitable, terrifying and strangely hilarious. Trapped in a gothic nightmare with cannibalism, torture and sacrifice, they are nevertheless utterly compelled to perform and will do anything to stay on the stage. Whatever it takes.
Performers jump through hoops in this random playground of the bizarre with Spanish monks, squeaky toys and the Table of Death. Also masks, half masks and quite a lot of mess.
Big Telly is the longest established independent theatre company in N. Ireland, having celebrated its 25th year in 2012. It is well known for comedy, theatricality and invention. In keeping with the company’s effervescent and eccentric style Melmoth the Wanderer is the sort of dizzy, delirious drama that sets Big Telly apart.
