TRAVELLING TO KOREA TO BRING THE WORLD TO WALES

Recently, South Korea was firmly placed on a world wide stage by co-hosting the World Cup and having unprecedented success themselves in the competition. But in late July, a group of people from Wales will be travelling to South Korea to try to attract a world wide festival to Wales in 2005.

The ASSITEJ (Association International du Théâtre pour l'Enfance et la Jeunesse) congress and conference in a week long festival that promotes theatre for children and young people. This international body connects thousands of theatres, organisations and individuals in over seventy countries, and celebrates and discusses various subjects in a colourful festival every three years.

This special festival has, in previous years visited Cuba and Norway, before travelling to Seoul this year. The main reason for those that are travelling from Wales this year is to attract this important festival to Aberystwyth in 2005. Arad Goch Theatre Company's Artistic Director, Jeremy Turner is the catalyst behind this bid "This is a wonderful opportunity to bring the best of world theatre to Wales. This festival has never visited any part of Britain, and it is a chance to show the rest of the world what we have to offer in Wales."

Travelling with Jeremy to Seoul to assist with the bid is Peter Tyndall, Chief Executive of the Arts Council of Wales, and Kate Woodward, Arad Goch's Marketing and Publicity Officer. Jenny Randerson, the Minister for Culture, Sport and Welsh language in the Assembly has also given her support to the bid.

The theme of this year's festival is 'Theatre and Technology', and a challenging drama from Wales has been invited to the Festival. 'Y Gymraes' theatre company will be performing the commissioned drama from last years National Eisteddfod. 'Son', by Sêra Moore Williams, is a ground breaking production in the way that it merges theatre and technology on stage.

The festival takes place between Saturday the 20th of July until Sunday the 28th of July.
