Fame Academy

BBC Entertainment Commissioning has teamed up with leading music entertainment producer Initial (part of Endemol UK) to put raw, undiscovered talent through the ultimate training academy for stardom.

'Fame Academy' (BBC ONE and BBC CHOICE) will be a close up view of the real life stories, characters and relationships that develop as twelve students go through intense training to reach the level of leading talent such as Robbie Williams and David Gray. We will see them living together, rehearsing together and witness all the tears, tantrums, successes and failures along the way - this will be 'Fame' for real.

The realities of what it takes to become a music superstar will be exposed as leading specialists from all fields of the industry give students the best professional training there is - from performance to behind-the-scenes preparation. Some of the biggest stars of today will visit the Academy to give further advice and support as the students train to become the ultimate performers.

In this highly pressurized environment the challenge is to stay ahead, as each week those who aren't making the grade have to leave the Academy.

Week after week, Fame Academy's unfolding story, with all its drama and tensions, will go out across the BBC, from BBC ONE to BBC Choice, to Radio 1 and on BBCi.

Public voting and viewer interaction will play a key role in the series as the Academy's star students begin to develop. The series will climax with what is being billed as the biggest prize in showbiz history.

For the viewer, Fame Academy's interactive features will also deliver a broad range of invaluable professional advice and specialist information. It will be the authoritative guide on how to succeed in the business.

Fame Academy follows Endemol's international success in the same genre. Similar Endemol formats first went to air in Europe as long as two years ago and have been major hits in Holland, France and Spain.

The BBC and Endemol UK are now in the process of selecting twelve people with untapped talent to join the Academy.
