Pridd...

Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru are pleased to announce that a new play by Aled Jones Williams will be the next company production. Pridd is a play for one actor and will go on tour across Wales during November. The play was written especially for the actor Owen Arwyn by Aled Jones Williams.
Handi Al, who is a children’s entertainer, will be the focus of the play. One afternoon he returns home to discover that everything is topsy turvey and his furniture has turned to earth. Will he take off his make-up and reflect on the life he’s lived?
Aled Jones Williams said; “I wrote Pridd as a play for an actor. So the actor and the acting is the most important aspect, not the themes. And if there is a theme – and I’d like to emphasise the ‘if’ – then it’s a play about identity; do we know who we are?; do we know what’s happening to us at the moment?; do we know how these things work?”
To understand Handi Al’s character, Owen Arwyn has spent time learning elements of clowning and has received guidance from experts in the field. He said:
“It’s been a pleasure to work on a play that’s been written for me by someone who I admire as much as Aled Jones Williams. It’s an interesting play that offers a lot to an actor. At the moment I’m learning clowning tricks which is quite a challenge, but it’s helping me understand the character more.”
Pridd will be directed by Sara Lloyd. Also a well-known actress, Sara has directed numerous plays, but this is her first for Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru.
The play will open on the 7th of November at Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s home at Y Llwyfan, Carmarthen, before going on tour to eight various theatre locations.
The play is suitable for age 14+.
