Welsh Musical Theatre Young Singer of the Year 2014 Competition – Preliminary Round this Saturday
|
Nearly thirty young Welsh Musical Theatre talents will perform in front of an eminent panel of judges in the preliminary round of the twelfth annual competition presented by Dunvant Male Choir at the Main Hall of Gowerton Comprehensive School, Swansea on Saturday 22nd February 2014.
The winners go forward to a final to be held on 12 April 2014 and perform in an “Extravaganza of Musical Theatre” alongside the Dunvant Male Choir at the Taliesin Arts Centre, Singleton Park. The finalists compete for a £1000 first prize with £250 for the other finalists, the prize money generously sponsored by the Principality Building Society.
Previous winners include Connie Fisher (London’s West End), David Thaxton (Olivier Winner) and Hayley Gallivan (London’s West End) (Pictured) and other successes, too numerous to mention, who have made effective use of the supporting prizes.
The public are warmly welcomed to the Gowerton School preliminary round which commences at 10 am and goes through to 3 pm (with a lunch break) with basic refreshments available. Admission is £2 (available at the door) and includes a comprehensive programme of the performances on the day with supporters able to freely come and go between the individual performances.
It’s a feast of Musical Theatre talent from across the principality, with each artist accompanied by Jeffrey Howard who has recently been recognised by the Welsh Music Guild for his invaluable contribution to music education in Wales.
Although entry for the 2014 competition is closed, event information is available from Choir Secretary, Clive Wilson (01792) 428626, preliminary round admission information is available from Choir Administrator, Alan Walters (01792) 401005 or choir website www.dunvantchoir.org.
The competition is organised by Dunvant Male Choir and sponsored by The Principality Building Society.
This is the twelfth successful year of the Annual Competition.
