‘The Game’ at Newport's Riverfront
|
Following on from her success with Romeo and Juliet: From the Streets at The Riverfront earlier this year Newport writer Alexandria Reynolds is bringing a brand new piece of theatre to the city. Alex is a fresh and talented young writer, recently graduated from the University of South Wales.
Her next project ‘The Game’ will be a gritty psychological thriller which delivers a tale of sex, power and manipulation which centres around Jasper Henry, a leading man with charm, wit, sex appeal and most importantly surrounded by mystery. With no back story his existence pricks the interest of local girl Layla, and Jasper Henry quickly introduces her to a dark new world, one of which she never knew existed, and that she would eventually regret discovering.
Alex has put a huge campaign together to really put Newport talent on the map. Her passion for writing and for theatre is evident in her previous projects but ‘The Game’ is really very special to her:

"This play really reflects my style of writing I think. I worked on it all through university and it is definitely my baby! I have huge plans for it in terms of marketing and advertising which is very exciting. I really want to highlight Newport talent with this. That was always the plan. I have a full Newport based production team who have so many different skills and talents that are going to make it great! I've also had a HUGE response from actors from the university. I'm so proud that it's almost acting as a hub for creative people in Newport to showcase their talents!"
Supporters of Alexandria’s work include Wales Arts Review and Newport City Radio who both applauded her fresh and edgy take on a Shakespeare classic. Her style of work reflects a great community spirit and at the heart of this production will not only be talent but Newport too.

Alex will be holding auditions for this play at The Riverfront so local people have the chance to take part and put the Newport Arts scene on the map. You are able to catch the play at The Riverfront Studio on 17-19 July. Due to the nature of the content the play is only suitable for ages 16+. |
