NORMAN MAILER HAILS WELSH PLAY IN USA

America's greatest living novelist, Norman Mailer, gave an accolade to 'Playing Burton' by Mark Jenkins after a two week run in Provincetown Cape Cod, ending August 25th.

He described the piece as 'a virtuoso pice of writing of rare quality, rich in texture.' Of Brian Mallon's performance in the role of Richard Burton he said 'the finest acting I have ever witnessed. I had to keep reminding myself that I wasn't watching the great man himself up there on stage.'

The author's tour was partially funded by the British Council in Wales and the show played to full houses throughout at the small Provincetown Repertory Theatre, with first class reviews and profiles in the Cape Cod press. Mallon's performances brought standing ovations. The Irish- American actor now takes the show to two backers' auditions off-Broadway in late September after a stop-off in Boston, Mass.

Mark Jenkins also took the opportunity to attend early rehearsals of his show, 'Nora's Bloke', a play for five women at the Irish Arts Center in New York, during the second week of the Burton run.
