War themed play revisited for anniversary of the Great War
To mark the anniversary of the start of the First World War director Michael Kelligan is revisiting the Patrick Jones’ play that imagines the meeting of Wilfred Owen and a fighter from a contemporary conflict.
Director Michael Kelligan said, “Patrick's play is a strong poetic study of the futility and the horror of war. Sadly it is even more relevant today that it was when I first presented it, one of the very first On The Edge productions, ten years ago, directed then by Wales' award winning film director Karl Francis. No doubt it will still be relevant in ten year time and even more sadly ten years after that.
Kelligan has now directed three of the Blackwood writer’s plays. “Being able to tour a full production of his brilliant play Dandelion last autumn gave me an opportunity to get closer to the exciting way he works,” he said.
“Now informed with that additional knowledge I look forward with great enthusiasm to delving into the arguments contained in The War is Dead Long Live The War and to bringing to life in a dynamic and vivid way that I hope will grip the audience.
“The highly talented young actors Alan Humphreys and Neal McWilliams have read the fascinating script and can't wait to get their teeth into the strongly written roles. Another exiting On The Edge production to add to the growing list.”
