Swanasea Grand Theatre restoration stage one completed
|
Thanks to Swansea Grand Theatre patrons, the first major stage of
restoration is completed!
In January 2013, Swansea Grand Theatre launched a campaign to refurbish
key areas of the theatre to maintain their position as one of the best
theatre in South Wales. The first stage of work has now been completed
with the stalls auditorium seats being re-upholstered.
The money has been raised by theatre customers, with their contribution
of 50p per ticket purchased at the theatre.
Local family run business Gwydr Upholstery which was established in 1931
have re-upholstered the seating.
Cllr Nick Bradley stated,
"Re-upholstering the seating in the theatre is a specialist job and we
were lucky to keep the job with a Swansea business. Gwydr are a family
run business and they have provided a fantastic service to make the
seats look great."
The restoration fund was set up to provide patrons with the best
theatrical experience possible every time they visit and for future
generations.
The next stage of the Restoration will be to paint the front of house
areas.
In addition to the restoration fund there is an opportunity to purchase
a dedication plaque to be placed on one of the seats in the main
auditorium for 10 years. Perhaps even on one of the newly re-furbished
seats! - a fantastic present or lasting memento for a loved one. |
