Passionate about performing? Sherman Cymru re-launches new Youth Theatre and launches drama group for over 18s

Sherman’s Youth Theatre has been nurturing fresh young local talent and interest in the arts for over 20 years and as part of the new programme of work at the Sherman, the company will be re-launching its Youth Theatre from September as well as launching a new drama group, the Sherman Players.
For over 20 years Sherman Youth Theatre has seen thousands of young people aged between 10 and 25 pass through the theatre and grow their passion for the arts. Some have continued their interested in the arts and gone on to work in the industry both on and off stage, while many still have very fond memories of weekly workshops where they made friends and developed their confidence.
From September onwards, the Youth Theatre is changing and while it will continue to provide an exciting opportunity for young people to develop their personal and performance skills with support and guidance from trained and experienced practitioners. There will more focus on individual and team work exercises, voice and movement as well as the opportunity to work towards show backs and progressing to performances on the main stage.
Sherman Youth Theatre is open to anyone aged between 10 and 17, who live or are educated within the City & County of Cardiff and have a passion for theatre.
Head of Sherman’s Youth Theatre Phil Mackenzie said: “At the Sherman we believe in nurturing young people’s creativity and self expression through the power of drama and theatre. We will also be guiding our young people into a deeper exploration of text as a means of expression.”
Sherman Youth Theatre and taking bookings now for its Autumn term. The term starts from 23 September and runs until 3 December with weekly workshops held on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. The fees per term are £90 and £5 concessions.
For the first time in September, Sherman Theatre will be starting a new drama group for those 18 and over, Sherman Players which is open to anyone interested in theatre, acting or
wanting to do something as a hobby on a weekly basis.
Open to ages 18 and over and with no experience necessary, the Sherman Players will be a dynamic drama group where you will have fun learning and developing new skills by qualified tutors in acting, clowning, combat and mask making. Sherman Players will also have the opportunity to perform in their own production on the main stage working with a professional director.
Sherman Players will meet every Tuesday between 7.30pm – 9.30pm from September. The fee each term is £90.

Sherman Cymru will continue to run is very popular Saturday morning workshops, Sherman Sherbets for children aged between 4 – 10 and Sherman Cymru’s Inc Youth Theatre Group for young people aged 15 to 22 with and without learning disabilities/difficulties who want to improve their theatre skills, meet new people and perform in a professional theatre.
