EVERYMAN THEATRE PRESENTS SHAKESPEARE'S MEASURE FOR MEASURE
|
Considered Shakespeare’s finest Comedy.
A complex play set, not in Vienna, but in the brothels and low life of
Venice, ruled by an elite catered for by a world of pimps, whores and
bawds.
A play preoccupied with self interest and that of the State. Morality,
hypocrisy and the abuse and manipulation of power and control.
No one is who they seem.
The prostitutes and the poor whose houses of ill repute are pulled
down are the most exploited group in society, which the play represents,
yet do not have a voice.
As a play it raises many issues relevant to-day. Measure for
Measure with its humour, complexity and diverse richness of writing and
characters promises to provide a highly entertaining and thought
provoking evening.
