Chapter and Coreo Cymru get Lottery funding from the Arts Council of Wales Chapter and Coreo Cymru delighted to secure Lottery funding from the Arts Council of Wales to continue the Creative Producer dance in Wales programme for a further two years

Associate Artists 2015 Gwyn Emberton, and dancer Rachele Rapisardi

Launched in January 2012, Coreo Cymru was established to increase support for dance artists and companies and to encourage partnerships with Wales based organisations in addition to international partnerships and co-producers. As a member of several international dance networks, Coreo Cymru has provided an excellent platform for dance from Wales and beyond.

The Creative Producer of dance in Wales programme will continue to raise the standards and quality of dance work produced in Wales through a comprehensive mentoring programme for artists and companies. It will continue to provide the platform for artists and companies to showcase, network and increase their profiles within the UK and internationally.

The programme for the two years includes:

British Dance Edition will be hosted in Wales for the first time in March 2016, at Chapter, Wales Millennium Centre, Riverfront Theatre and National Dance Company of Wales’s Dance House. To support this major event a commissioning programme will be developed to produce a number of fully commissioned touring works with the aim of presenting them at the showcase and venues across Wales. Of which, further details will be announced soon.

The Welsh Dance Strand piloted last year at Edinburgh Fringe will support the presentation of the Coreo/National Theatre Wales’ commissioned work by Sally Marie. A further three companies will be provided with additional marketing, to support greater exposure of Welsh dance, at the Edinburgh Fringe 2015 during the British Council Showcase week. Touring support has been earmarked for independent Welsh companies, designed to maximise on interest they receive from international promoters at these showcases.

The Dance Roads programme will provide international touring opportunities, with a touring programme of work by choreographers from each of the network partner countries; France, Italy, The Netherlands, Romania and Wales, in May and June 2016.

Other Coreo programmes include the Associate Artists - Gwyn Emberton (2015) and Deborah Light (2016), support towards the Coreo partnership project the Dance Dome, an extended Fit 4 Business programme and new partnerships projects.

Andy Eagle, director of Chapter said;
“Chapter is delighted to have secured another 2 years of funding support towards the development of dance across Wales through the Coreo Cymru project. We can now move forward on many new projects and look forward to British Dance Edition 2016 being held in Cardiff. In partnership with Wales Millennium Centre, Newport Riverfront and National Dance Company Wales this showcase of UK and Wales dance talent will welcome international delegates from all across the world.”

Carole Blade, creative producer, Coreo Cymru said;
“This project offers Wales the opportunity to create a meaningful and lasting legacy for the dance sector. It provides aspirational goals in which to clearly forge and enrich artistic development and paves the way for a more sustainable and buoyant cultural landscape. We very much look forward to continuing our relationship with the dance sector in Wales and beyond and creating new opportunities for its development.”
