“TOM. A STORY OF TOM JONES”. THE MUSICAL, kick- starts its UK Tour with a week on the Donald Gordon Stage at Wales Millennium Centre in March 2016

Since its initial development in 2012 Theatr na nÓg announces that “TOM. A STORY OF TOM JONES. THE MUSICAL” will begin their UK wide tour with a week long run on the main stage of Wales Millennium Centre. The tour will continue it’s run at major venues across the UK, to include The Lowry Salford, Birmingham Alexandra, and Sheffield Lyceum, Curve Leicester, with an estimated audience of over 50,000 people having the opportunity to see the production in 2016.

The inspirational tale told in this show of gritty determination to succeed at all costs is one mirrored by Theatr na nÓg as it steps forward with its biggest and most exciting challenge to present a large scale musical on some of the best stages within the UK if not the World.

Following a very successful UK theatre tour in 2014, supported by the Arts Council of Wales, RCT and NPT Theatres, Theatr na nÓg held an investors showcase event of ‘TOM” in February, which resulted in an overwhelming display of support and praise. Propelled by this and its bold ambition to take this successful product further afield, the Neath based charity aims to ensure that the success of this new and exciting venture benefits and sustains the company for future years – enabling the organisation to reinvest back into the core business and more importantly securing a legacy, which enables audiences from all backgrounds to access high quality theatre, made in Wales for Welsh audiences of all ages.

Graeme Farrow, Wales Millennium Centre’s Artistic Director said: “A major ambition for Wales Millennium Centre going forward is to welcome a greater volume of work from Wales based companies to our Donald Gordon stage, so I'm especially pleased that we are kick starting Theatr na nÓg’s UK tour of "TOM - A Story of Tom Jones" the musical next March."

Theatr na nÓg is currently holding auditions in Cardiff and London to join the already talented cast of actors and musicians. Supported by an experienced creative team - Mike James (Writer), Ben Goddard (Musical Director) and Sean Crowley (Designer) – Geinor Styles (Director) looks forward to an exciting chapter in the company’s history.

Curve Leicester is one of the major venues signed up to take the production for the week of 2nd April 2016. Fiona Allan, CEO Curve Leicester came to the Showcase and said: “I get given new scripts and see new productions in their infancy on a regular basis. I’ve got a strong radar for what will succeed and certainly what I’d want to see at Curve. Immediately on seeing the showcase performance of The Story of Tom (Jones) I knew it had broad popular appeal, and we committed on the spot to presenting the production for a week at Curve. I’m especially pleased to see the production open at Wales Millennium Centre; it seems the perfect fit.”
