Pentref Drama programme announcement 2015


Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru and Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru are pleased to announce the programme of events taking place at the Pentref Drama (Drama Village) this year.

A whole week of events have been organised in the Pentref Drama, which is sponsored by Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru and includes plays, talks, competitions, lectures, work in development and activities for children and their families.

Caffi’r Theatrau (Theatre Cafe) will return following last year’s success. The cafe is run by the Welsh theatre production companies and presenting venues in Wales as part of WAPA, which is the Welsh Association for the Performing Arts and represents theatre, opera and dance. Tea and coffee will be served throughout the day in the cafe, a crafts table for children and various talks will be held there. Audiences will also be able to buy tickets for shows for Theatr Bara Caws and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru from the counter.

A new adition to the Pentref Drama in 2014, the Cwt Drama will return again this year with a various and exciting programme. The main play of the week will be by Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, in partnership with Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru; La Primera Cena by Dewi Wyn Williams. This will be the first showing of the play that won the Drama prize at last years Eisteddfod. Janet Aethwy will be directing and the cast includes Siân Beca, John Glyn, Martin Thomas and Delyth Wyn.

A father and son who meet for the first time in 30 years, but it’s not such a happy occassion as uncomfortable truths are unearthed and dark secrets uncovered. This is a story of one man’s journey to discover his past – at whatever the cost. La Primera Cena will be performing at the Cwt Drama from Monday the 3rd of August until Friday the 7th of August at 6:00pm. Tickets are £5 and onsale through the Eisteddfod (tickets don’t include entry to the Eisteddfod).

The main interest of the Cwt Drama is new writing, projects in development and raw and exciting productions. Amongst the weeks events are Pwy Ydan Ni’n Feddwl Ydan Ni? by Cwmni’r Frân Wen and Clwyd Theatr Cymru; new writing by Sherman Cymru in ‘Hel Clecs’, ‘Sgript i Lwyfan’ project by Cwmni’r Frân Wen, a Comedy Script Slam by BBC Radio Cymru and S4C and a presentation by University of South Wales students; ER7.

Theatr y Maes will also present a full programme of events throughout the week. Suitable for families are Lleuad yn Olau by Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch, as part of T Llew Jones day on the Maes; Shabŵm by Cwmni’r Frân Wen, shows by In Character company and Drwg by Theatr Bara Caws. The programme also includes the Lunchtime Play festival, Theatr Maldwyn will be performing Noson Lawen Nansi, and Theatr Fach Llangefni will be performing an adaptation of the play Welcome Home, by Catrin Jones Hughes.
