On February 27th (5-6 pm) a tribute to innovative Japanese-American polymath & choreographer Akira Ito (1951-1998) will be organised at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre. The essence of Itos performance aesthetics draws on the centuries-old tradition of Origami, as the origami object (a sequence of folds and creases in time) is conceived as an abstraction and embodiment of the choreography (a sequence of gestures and movements in space). This unique presentation invites participants to explore the characteristics, boundaries and subtleties of the performance medium. The event is followed by an evocation in the spirit of Itos oeuvre and also includes a workshop (separate booking necessary). The event is free of charge. |
