Becoming a Villain: The Early Career of Vincent Price and the Importance of Dragonwyck

Mae'r digwyddiad arbennig hwn, sy'n cymryd lle yng Nghanolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth ar Fedi'r 17eg, yn cynnwys cyflwyniad gan ferch Vincent Price, Victoria Price, a dangosiad o'r ffilm Dragonwyck (PG).

Vincent Price yw efallai un o actorion mwyaf adnabyddadwy'r 20fed Ganrif.

Mae ei yrfa hir ac amrywiol wedi cynnwys troedio llwyfannau Broadway yn y 1930au, ennill enw fel casglwr celf brwdfrydig, gweithio fel pen-cogydd gourmet, serennu ar y teledu a'r radio, ac wrth gwrs ymddangos mewn dros 100 o ffilmiau. Mae ei yrfa ym maes ffilm wedi mynd ag ef o epigau beiblaidd Cecil B Demille trwy gampweithiau gothig Roger Corman, ac hyd yn oed mor bell â Tim Burton. Mae ei ddylanwad ar ffilm yn ddigyffelyb.

Beth sy'n llai adnabyddus efallai yw cysylltiadau teuluol Vincent gyda Chymru. 'Roedd ei ail wraig, Mary, yn Gymraes, ac felly mae'n arbennig o addas ein bod yn croesawu i Aberystwyth Victoria Price, eu merch, i gyflwyno noson arbennig yn edrych yn ôl ar yrfa gynnar ei thad, gyda sgriniad o'r ddrama gyfnod gothig glasurol Dragonwyck yn dilyn, mewn adferiad newydd prydferth.

Fe'ch gwahoddir i ymuno â ni ar gyfer noson gofiadwy a chyfle i ddathlu gyrfa gynnar eithriadol un o wir gewri'r sinema. Mae tocynnau ar gael o Swyddfa Docynnau Canolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth ar 01970 623232, artstaff@aber.ac.uk neu www.aberystwythartscentre.co.uk.

Becoming a Villain: The Early Career of Vincent Price and the Importance of Dragonwyck

This special event taking place at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on September 17th includes a presentation by Vincent Price’s Daughter, Victoria Price, and film screening of Dragonwyck (PG).

Vincent Price is perhaps one of the most recognisable actors of the 20th Century.

His long and varied career has seen him tread the Broadway stages of the 1930s, become an avid art collector, a gourmet chef, a star of television and radio, and of course his appearance in over 100 films. His movie career has taken him from the biblical epics of Cecil B Demille through the gothic masterpieces of Roger Corman, and even as far as Tim Burton. The influence on film of this King of Horror is unparalleled.

What is perhaps lesser known is Vincent’s family connections to Wales. His second wife Mary was born in Pembrokeshire, and so it is particularly fitting that we welcome to Aberystwyth Victoria Price, their daughter, to present a special evening whereby she will be looking back on her father’s early career - sharing rare photos and incredible stories of his early ascent to stardom and his discovery of the joys of villainy. Victoria's talk will be followed by a screening of the classic 1946 gothic period drama Dragonwyck, in a beautiful new restoration.

We invite you to join us for a memorable evening and a chance to celebrate the extraordinary early career of a true legend of cinema. Tickets are available from Aberystwyth Arts Centre's Box Office on 01970 623232, artstaff@aber.ac.uk or www.aberystwythartscentre.co.uk.
