Cardiff’s own Orbit Theatre Company presents William Golding’s classic LORD OF THE FLIES this summer. From Wednesday 2 – Saturday 5 July a cast of young, talented actors will recreate this great story at Orbit Studio Theatre, United Reform Church, Roath, Cardiff.

The biggest challenge of all was finding their all-male cast, aged between 9 and 14. Cardiff rose to the challenge and nearly 100 boys attended auditions back in April. Now Lord of the Flies boasts a large cast of very talented youngsters! Nick Mills, director said: “When we originally came up with the idea of Lord of the Flies with a cast of boys, rather than adults playing children, many people said we’d never manage to cast it. However, we had an overwhelming response and now have a fabulous cast who have done a terrific job. They really bring the show to life.”

The Lord of the Flies tells the story of a group of boys who are stranded on a deserted island when the plane they were travelling in crashes over the ocean. Without adult leadership the boys must lean to fend for themselves. By day they inhabit an island of bright fantastic birds and dark blue seas, but at night their dreams are haunted by the image of a terrifying beast. As the boys' delicate sense of order fades, so their childish fears are transformed into something more primitive, and their behaviour starts to take on a darker, savage significance.

Lord of the Flies at the Orbit Studio Theatre, Cardiff from Wednesday 2 to Saturday 5 July. Tickets are available from Cyril Owen on (029) 2051 2000.
