Theatre in Wales

The latest theatre, dance and performance news

RESPONSE TO DIC EDWARDS

Dic by name, dick by nature. The profession is in enough trouble without stabbing each other in the back. A perfect example of simultaneous foot and brain shooting. This is not a competition - who's better, who's best, who's worse. It is not about whether bigger or smaller equates "excellence". It is about the battle for Theatre throughout Wales at every level to articulate the soul of the Welsh people whether through community street theatre or Beckettian high art.

It isn't about me, Edwards, it is about YOU and writers and artists like you. And if you don't understand what I am saying (as your misinformed letter to The Western Mail demonstrates, with your muddled definition of elite and excellence and your mean spirited, petty squabbling) then you deserve to end your days with your plays performing to two sheep and a dog.

For the record, neither Theatr Clwyd nor its policy is anything to do with me nor is it one that I endorse. I am 62 and have no desire to run a large organisation ever again in my life. What I do have is a passionate desire to stop Wales becoming the theatrical laughing stock of Europe which is obviously more than can be said for you. Read my lips.

P.S. I shall not be prolonging this debate any further
