Community Dance Wales (CDW) has published their Spring 2004 Training Programme - 'Flying Start' - a programme designed to inspire creativity with 4 to 7 year olds both in and outside school. Details are as follows: Friday 13th February, CARAD Dance Space, Rhayader (10am - 4pm) - 'Movement Learning: The Joy of Discovery', with Eeva Mutka (dancer) and Andy Paget (the Feldenkrais Method). This workshop will examine how children learn and develop through Movement Play, giving practical ideas & theoretical background. Friday 5th March, Blackwood Miners Institute (10am - 4pm) - 'Swyrl-y-Tworld', with Paul Davies of North East Wales Dance. This workshop, based on North East Wales Dance's highly successful schools project, Swyrl-y-Tworld, will provide an opportunity for practitioners outside of North Wales to experience this project and share best practice ideas. Sunday 21st March, Powys Dance, Llandrindod Wells (10am - 4pm) - 'Dance and the National Curriculum: Using the Medium of Welsh Folk Dance', with Prydwen Elfed-Owens, ESTYN Inspector and Chair of the Welsh Folk Dance Society. This bi-lingual workshop will focus on working in schools and satisfying the requirements of the National Curriculum at Key Stage One and will look at ways to achieve these criteria while delivering inspiring dance activities for children. Saturday March 27th, University of Glamorgan Sports Centre (10am - 4pm) - 'Practical Creative Ideas for Good Practice (When working with children of Infants School Age)', with Lois Taylor of Attik Dance (Cornwall). New ideas, alternative approaches and practical application of ideas in dancing with youngsters. Additional Training opportunities include: Saturday 17th January, Diversions Studio, Cardiff (10am - 4pm) AND Sunday 18th January, Aberystwyth Arts Centre (10am - 4pm) - 'Funky Street Dance' with Roy Gayle. Develop your own skills in this popular youth dance form - get new moves & ideas for youth work, develop skills in an area of high demand and have fun! Friday 27th February, Sbectrwm, Cardiff (10am - 1pm) AND Friday 12th March, North Wales Theatre, Llandudno (10am - 1pm) - An Introduction to Self Employment with the Inland Revenue. A half day course with the Inland Revenue aimed at helping self employed people to understand the tax system and set their records straight. An introduction to accounts and book keeping, this course will be followed up by a workshop on self assessment, to be held next term. All workshops are £10, payable in advance by cheque/cash, and can be booked by contacting CDW.
