Menter Aberteifi, Theatr Mwldan, and Parthian Books are holding the Purple Dragon Story Festival - Cardigan’s first story festival - 12-21 March 2004. A ten day celebration of the story in all its forms, the festival will be of particular interest to those with an interest in traditional oral storytelling. The Festival will feature story tellings, theatre, book launches, readings, competitions, book fairs, exhibitions, workshops, and more.
On Saturday 13th March, the Purple Dragon Short Story Competition Award will be given out. Submissions of stories of less than 5,000 words in any genre, English or Welsh, are invited. The entry fee is £5, and the deadline for applications is 14th February. One winner in each language will receive £100 and consultations with a leading Welsh publisher and a London literary agent. Also as a part of the Festival, Cambrensis is holding a Writers’ Weekend, 12 -13 March, at the Clynfyw Centre for Creativity in Abercych near Cardigan. The weekend will focus on the writing of short stories which concentrate primarily on character. Individual tutorials will be given, with the aim of helping participants to complete a short story over the course of the weekend. Cost of the weekend is £120, which includes tuition, accommodation, meals, and transport and admission to some events at the Festival. Places are limited to 14 participants.
