World Children’s Theatre Day - March 20th 2004

Gwent Theatre and the Gwent Young People’s Theatre will be celebrating World Children’s Theatre Day at The Melville Theatre in Abergavenny. Members of the youth theatre will be participating in a Music Theatre Workshop directed by Ken Caswell and accompanied by Stephanie Benavente who has appeared in London musicals including Les Miserables and Grease.

Ken Caswell was born in Monmouthshire and was a member of the Gwent Young People’s Theatre before training at the Rose Bruford College. He began his career in the theatre as an actor and singer playing literally hundreds of different roles in works ranging from early operas to Shakespeare and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

He began directing in 1986 and since then has directed productions of plays and musicals all over the world. His work includes productions of Sweeney Todd, Fiddler on the Roof, Oliver and Traviata. As an Associate Director for Cameron Mackintosh Ltd. Ken has directed sixteen productions of Les Miserables world wide. He was recently awarded an Heraldo Award for his work on the Mexican production.

Under the management of Gwent Theatre the Gwent Young People’s Theatre creates opportunities for young people to participate in theatre activities under the direction of professional theatre practitioners.
