YN DEBYG IAWN I TI A FI

YN DEBYG IAWN I TI A FI Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, the new Welsh-language national touring theatre company, will hold it’s south Wales premiere at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven on Thursday the 29th of April.

Yn Debyg Iawn i Ti a Fi by Meic Povey, described as a “gritty contemporary play of family turmoil staged in a dynamic, theatrical style”, features a strong cast of well-known Welsh actors under the direction of Theatr Genedlaethol’s Artistic Director, Cefin Roberts.

The actor / singer Bryn Fon, and Siw Hughes (Pobol y Cwm’s Cath) are both household names in Wales, and Gwenno Hodgkins will be familiar to followers of S4C drama. Glyn Pritchard, in the lead role of the schizophrenic son in the play, has appeared in the Torch productions of Neville’s Island in 1998 and Abigails Party in 1999, and is best known to many as Brookside’s loveable rogue, Christy.

"This very powerful play, which deals with main character's future following the death of the mother, is both a challenge and a joy to us as a company" according to Cefin Roberts. "We are delighted to hold our first ever south Wales performance at the Torch, especially with such a strong cast, and with a piece by such an eminent writer " he said.

Yn Debyg Iawn i Ti runs for three night from Thursday April 29 to Saturday May 1. The Friday evening performance features a special, free of charge pre-show session for Welsh-learners where the attenders will be given an insight into the play, and will see key scenes acted out, on the set, in English. Tickets cost £8.00 (£6.00 concessions) and are available by calling the Box Office on 01646 695267.

Theatre Genedlaethol Cymru is based in Llanelli. The company will produce three mainstream productions annually, presented in a range of styles and genres, at the main Welsh theatre venues. The company will also undertake outreach and education work, and will provide training for an ensemble of young 'core actors'.

Meic Povey is a Cardiff based writer, director and actor. He is the most productive and critically acclaimed dramatist of his generation and his work for various Welsh-language theatre companies over the last 25 years has consistently proven to be of appeal to audiences throughout Wales.

Cefin Roberts is a renown stage and screen author, performer and director. He was a prominent member of Cwmni Theatr Cymru and then Bara Caws in the 1970's and 80's before founding the highly successful Ysgol Glanaethwy performance school for young people in 1990. He has won the National Eisteddfod's Drama Medal on two occasions and his first novel, Brwydr y Bradwr, won last year's National Eisteddfod Literary Medal, and is short-listed for this year's Arts Council of Wales Book of the Year Award.
