| Black Rat Productions- Neville's Island , On Tour , October 26, 2012 |
Black RAT Productions have firmly established themselves as one of Wales’ foremost touring companies with former successes Bouncers and Up ‘n’ Under receiving due respect from audiences and reviewers alike. Their latest production, Neville’s Island by Tim Firth in association with RCT Theatres, continues their achievement.Tightly directed by Richard Tunley and featuring a talented cast of four fine comedy actors, it can do no wrong. Strong characterisation with clever use of an extremely versatile set, designed by Steve Denton, make for a hilarious evening of comedy. The plot - four out-of-condition businessmen shipwrecked on a small island in the Lake District after becoming lost on a team-building exercise, lends itself perfectly to all the rivalry, insecurity and mayhem that ensues. The foursome clamber on stage one-by one in soaking wet clothes and the humour is immediate as grumpy Gordon, played with dry and sardonic wit by Gareth Bale discovers that he’s the only one missing a rucksake, hence no clothes and no food! Team leader, marketing manager, Neville is played with hilarious boy-scout enthusiasm by Jâms Thomas who haplessly tries to keep spirits up as the remaining two characters, Roy (Peter Brad-Leigh) and Angus (Keiron Self) gradually turn-in on themselves and seamlessly turn humour into pathos. Undoubtedly another winner. |
