Autumn is just around the corner and to primary schools in Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend that means another unmissable trip to the Dylan Thomas Theatre in Swansea to see Theatr na n’Og bring history to life. This year, Theatr na n’Og’s annual production for school years five and six, Halt! Who Goes There? is based on a true story and is set during World War Two. On the night of 10th-11th March 1945, 70 German Prisoners of War tunnelled to freedom from Camp 198 in Bridgend. It was the biggest escape attempt made by German POWs in Great Britain during the Second World War. The audience of nine to eleven year olds will join a gang of friends as they set about capturing the escaped POWs! Everyone in the community joins in the hunt, even the local Girl Guide troupe! The production, written and directed by Theatr na n’Og’s Artistic Director Geinor Jones, will be performed in English and Welsh from 8th September to 10th December at the Dylan Thomas Theatre in Swansea with accompanying activities at Swansea Museum. The museum activities are free of charge to schools that are members of 4-Site. Any schools interested in joining 4-Site should contact Gerald Gabb at Swansea Museum. Theatr na n’Og are pleased to be working with Designer Rachel Canning who will design the set, props and costumes for the production. Rachel will be one of the first designers in Wales to have a set used at the new Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff when it opens this year. Ceri James is one of the most respected Lighting Designers in Wales and will design the lighting for the production.
