KICK OFF 2006 WITH ‘FOOTLOOSE’ AT WMC

Footloose the Broadway stage musical based on the smash-hit 1980’s film, will open its UK tour with its Welsh premiere at Wales Millennium Centre (WMC) on Friday 6 January 2006 starring Stephen McGann, Cheryl Baker and Johnny Shentall.

The musical, which made its debut UK tour in 2004 and is now set to repeat its success on a second tour prior to its transfer to the West End, will show at WMC through to 14 January before making its way to 10 other venues around the country.

Cast members include Emmerdale actor Stephen McGann as Reverend Shaw Moore, ex-Hear’Say singer Johnny Shentall as Chuck Cranston and Bucks Fizz star Cheryl Baker as Vi Moore.

Programming & Marketing Director at WMC Fiona Allan comments, “We’re delighted that Footloose will be starting its UK tour at Wales Millennium Centre and look forward to welcoming them in the New Year. The line-up is impressive and I’m sure people from Wales and across the borders will jump at the chance to see them live on stage.”

The film Footloose was released in 1984 making a global star of its lead actor, Kevin Bacon and taking the world by storm with its youthful spirit, dazzling dance and electrifying music.

Written by Dean Pitchford (responsible for the screenplay and lyrics for the film) and Walter Bobbie, Footloose tells the story of city boy Ren who has to move to small town America where dancing is banned. All hell breaks out as Ren breaks loose and soon has the whole town on its feet.

Featuring the hottest talent around, this fast-paced show is packed full of amazing dance and classic 80s hits, including Holding Out For A Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear It For The Boy and of course the unforgettable title track Footloose.

Wales Millennium Centre is a project supported by Lottery grant from the Millennium Commission and a direct grant from the Welsh Assembly Government.
