Get Ready to Rumble

Rumble, showing at Wales Millennium Centre (WMC) for two nights only from 25-26 March, is an interpretation of Romeo and Juliet like no other – a breathtaking display of street dance with rival crews battling it out on stage by internationally renowned hip hop dance company Renegade Theatre.

Having already gone down a storm at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2004 and picked up several awards across Europe, Rumble is the brainchild of fight choreographer Markus Michalowski, hip hop guru Zekai Fenerci and breakdancer Lorca Renou.

Rumble, strongly inspired by Shakespere’s Romeo and Juliet, aims to reach a younger and wider audience and is touring the UK for eights weeks. Made up of circus performers, street and trained modern dancers, the production is an unforgettable, funny and awe-inspiring mix of street culture and theatre.

Fiona Allan, Programming and Marketing Director at WMC says: “We’ve had nothing quite like this at WMC before, making it all the more exciting. The strongest medium in this production is street dance which will open the door to a completely new audience.

“WMC is also running a whole weekend of urban arts activity around this production called Breakin’ The Bay which consists of various graffiti, rapping, hip hop, breakdance and djing workshops as well as other activities.”

In addition to the numerous workshops planned throughout the weekend, Breakin’ The Bay (24-26 March) will also provide young people with the opportunity to record demos, perform on the Tesco Stage in the foyer at WMC along with a dance-off competition.

As a warm-up event, an 8-mile type rap battle will take place at Wales Millennium Centre this Friday (24 February) at 9pm. This free event, hosted by Higher Learning, will provide £150 to the lucky winner and £50 to the runner-up.

Tickets for Rumble range from £5-£22. To book your tickets simply contact the Ticket Office on 08700 40 2000 or visit our website at www.wmc.org.uk

“Thrilling stuff, a real Shakespeare turn-on” – The Guardian

“What makes it amazing is the way it combines the drama of the narrative while expressing the physicality of love so eloquently – there is poetry in the way these performers move” – The Guardian
