Diversions Autumn tour 2004

Diversions Autumn tour 2004 Diversions, The Dance Company of Wales celebrates its’ twenty-first birthday entering the last tour before moving to Wales Millennium Centre. As part of the birthday celebrations Diversions is honouring its’ Welsh roots, by putting on its’ most Welsh repertory yet, supporting home grown talent.

Director, Roy Campbell-Moore is excited to have secured Welsh choreographer Sean Tuan John to create work for Diversions main repertory. John, who has been labelled as ‘the bad boy of British dance’ by Italian Vogue is working with Diversions for the second time, having produced a successful piece for Diversions second season Dance Trilogy in 2002.

Johns’ piece, ‘Psycho-Delia’ depicts office workers transforming into bizarre aliens. Psychedelic costumes, a futuristic silver set and an energetic soundtrack of popular indie music ranging from Bjork to Moby, all add to John’s eccentric and entertaining spectacle.

Diversions will also perform the twenty-first work by Director Roy Campbell-Moore, ‘Between’, to coincide with their anniversary. Played out against the quirky, folk music of Welsh borders trio ‘Hoover the Dog’, ‘Between’ dives headlong into the emotional turmoil experienced between birth and death. Inspired by Paul Seawright’s award winning series of night-time photographs of the Welsh Valleys, and with sexy and sophisticated movement, this is a truly unmissable work. Campbell-Moore’s recent hit productions for the Company include; ‘Tough Love’ (2003) and ‘Etch’ (2001).

Formed in 1983 by Directors Roy Campbell-Moore and Ann Sholem, Diversions has achieved national and international recognition through its extensive touring both in Britain and overseas. Diversions has remained true to its founding philosophy that a trip to a dance show should be a magical, inspiring and life-enhancing occasion and is now widely acknowledged as one of the most entertaining and theatrical dance companies around. The Company has commenced its twenty-first anniversary year on a high, eagerly preparing for their launch at Wales Millennium Centre.

In their new home at Wales Millennium Centre, the dancers, choreographers and designers of Diversions will now have the exciting opportunity to produce work in one of Europe’s best production centres for dance. From there, they will continue to perform innovative and stylish work and to represent Wales as they tour dance throughout the UK and beyond. Using the Dance House, Diversions will bring the best of world dance to Wales, developing global links within the dance community, supporting and promoting Welsh dance artists, championing new choreographic talent and expanding the Welsh dance scene. This is a thrilling new stage in Diversions ongoing development.
