At Theatr Clwyd by Theatr Clwyd Theatre Cimpany- Dick Whittington The Puuurfect Rock 'n' Roll Panto by Christian Patterson

It's that time of year again. The time when to be part of the audience in the Anthony Hopkins Theatre at Theatr Clwyd is to ensure that at some point during the performance you will get wet. Also this year that you will have soap bubbles descend upon you, not to mention polystyrene snow.

Yes, it's Mold's Rock'n'Roll panto, full of colour, bright costumes, loud music, funny puppets and a wildly energetic cast. Oh and I almost forgot - a great deal of laughter.

Christian Patterson, the writer, is not afraid of local references, lots of them, old jokes, all coming up fresh as paint, old panto routines, ditto, and two of the most spectacularly groan-worthy puns I have heard in years.

The cast's timing and musicianship is expert. Phylip Harries makes a welcome return as the Dame. Daniel Lloyd relishes his increased share of jokes and routines as Wally Fitzwarren.

Peter Mooney is a charming and virile Dick. A special word for his Alice Fitzwarren. Emmy Stonelake, who should have played the part was injured and the Assistant Director, Francesca Goodridge, took the part on. On press night, with only three days to prepare, there was no sign that she hadn't been doing it all along.

Royce Cronin is an excellently hissable King Rat and Toby Falla a highly gymnastic Tommy the Cat. Director ZoŽ Waterman keeps things moving at a furious rate in this ideal family combination of traditional panto and rock extravaganza.
