Jack & the Beanstalk, playing at the Torch Theatre in Milford Haven until Saturday 29th December is not quite the traditional style of pantomime.
With its slim cast of six excellent players and a noticeable lack of the usual type of song and dance routines, it appealed enormously to the audience of school-children present on my visit.
Karin Diamond as the Mad Cow Denise provides a touch of inspired madness in her cowskin chaps and waistcoat. Craig Rogan as Jack is a hugely likeable naughty schoolboy and his girlfriend Roxanne played by Tonya Smith is a lady-like squaw.
King of the county (and Roxanne’s Dad), alias Garry Lake is definitely more rock and roll than regal in his pursuit of peace, quiet and the hand of hilarious Dame Trot (Lee Mengo). John Atkins as Igor brings back memories of Max Wall to the oldies and a great deal of amusement to the numerous children.
Just the thing for putting you in fine festive mood. Hugely enjoyable and very cleverly directed by Peter Doran. Go and see it if you get the opportunity. |
